It was expected by all and the Tribute Committee to Sylvain ZONGO has designed it for you: Soon, the major conference on the issues and challenges of artificial intelligence for the judicial world

The Association “Initiative for Internet Governance in Burkina Faso (IGF-BF)”, in collaboration with digital stakeholders, is pleased to announce the holding of the first conference as part of the tribute to Sylvain ZONGO organized in recognition of major contributions to the development of digital technology in Burkina Faso.

This first conference, under the theme “Issues and challenges of artificial intelligence for the judicial world”, will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 10:00 UT online.

A reflection on the future of justice in the era of AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is profoundly transforming all sectors of activity, and justice is no exception to this revolution. This conference will bring together legal experts, digital professionals, researchers, decision-makers and students to examine the implications of AI on the functioning of the judicial system, by addressing in particular:

The automation of judicial decisions: opportunities and limits;
The use of AI in legal drafting assistance and case law research;
Ethical challenges and risks of algorithmic bias;
Implications for data protection and citizens’ rights;
A tribute to innovation and digital players.

This conference pursues the following objectives:

Create an interaction between digital professionals and other professions.
Ensure that justice players take ownership of the issues and challenges of AI.

It is primarily aimed at players in the judicial world but also at all those who wonder about the question of AI with the perspective of justice issues.

Two leading figures, the best of the best to entertain you

To facilitate this discussion, the Conference Commission of the Tribute Committee to Sylvain ZONGO called upon Dr. Wendkuuni Moïse CONVOLBO, PhD, inventor, scientist and innovator who focuses on Cloud, geo-distributed data centers, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. He is currently Data Senior Manager at Parfums Christian Dior (LVMH). He is driven by the mission to empower society, through Cloud technologies and Artificial Intelligence. Big Data represents a tremendous opportunity to improve people’s lives. This is why Dr. CONVOLBO is interested in digital transformation. Recently, he has been working on machine learning inspired by the human brain and its applications, in order to use data to maximize customer satisfaction and improve data-driven decisions. He has successfully patented “BangreNaaba” and “PathFinder” both in predictive analytics. Finally, Dr. CONVOLBO is Burkinabé by birth, African at heart and a citizen of the world by his way of life. He has received recognition at the state level with the National Order of Merit. Dr. CONVOLBO obtained a doctorate from the National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) in computer science.

And to moderate the conference, an exceptional lady will be at the helm. This is Wendinso ZOUNGRANA. She is a contract PhD student and second-year lecturer at the François Rabelais interdisciplinary laboratory in Tours, she works under the supervision of Professor Pierre-Yves Monjal, holder of the Jean Monnet Chair. Her thesis focuses on the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the European Union, its Member States and Japan. Passionate about international cooperation, she regularly presents her work at conferences and seminars, thus fueling interest in Euro-Asian relations. She recently joined the office of the Peace Research Institute in the Sahel, where she actively contributes to promoting stability and solidarity in this region.

This conference is part of a series of events aimed at highlighting the contributions of digital pioneers and experts in Burkina Faso. By paying tribute to these actors, the IGF-BF wishes to encourage innovation, responsible digital governance and the adoption of technologies adapted to national needs.

We invite all digital actors, legal professionals, researchers and students to take part in this high-level meeting which will open the debate on the future of AI in our judicial system.
