Introduction to JavaScript Programming: IGF-BF Pays Tribute to Sylvain ZONGO Through an Innovative Training Course
Ouagadougou, April 22, 2025 – As part of the tribute initiative to Sylvain ZONGO (https://hommagezongos.igf.org.bf), a pioneer of the Internet in Burkina Faso and of Free Software in Africa, the Initiative for Internet Governance in Burkina Faso (IGF-BF) organized a training course on the theme “Introduction to JavaScript Programming” for high school and middle school students.
This session was held on April 18 and 21, 2025, at Joseph KI-ZERBO University in Ouagadougou. It brought together more than fifty students from various high schools and middle schools in the capital, all driven by a shared passion: discovering the basics of computer programming.
The training was led by Mr. Juniore Ibrahim TOE and Mr. Justin BONKOUGOU, assisted by Ms. Jeanne d’Arc SAWADOGO and Ms. Yasmina TRAORE, experienced trainers in the digital field. Over two days rich in learning, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of JavaScript, the cornerstone of modern web programming. Between theory, practical exercises, and collaborative projects, the atmosphere was both studious and motivating.
According to the organizers, this training aims to honor Mr. Sylvain ZONGO, a major figure in the Internet in Burkina Faso and in Free Software in Africa. This tribute initiative will culminate on May 17, 2025, with an official ceremony attended by the individual and numerous leading figures in the digital world.
Participants left with new skills and a keen curiosity for the world of computing and coding. This training, which could be repeated in other locations across the country, is part of a broader effort to democratize digital skills in Burkina Faso.
